The Brontë sisters and the moors that surrounded their parsonage home are inextricably entwined.
They formed the backdrop to their childhood, their home, their daily existence. They provided inspiration for their work and
solace for their troubles.
As small children they enjoyed the freedom and wild scenery of the moors, exploring rough tracks and imagining the doings of their characters in Glass Town and Gondal. Grown up they would surely have discussed their writing as they roamed across the bleak and beautiful landscape now forever known to the world as “Brontë Country” and which inspired such literary masterpieces as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
