Richard III (1452-1485) was the last Yorkist King of England. In 1483, when Duke of Gloucester, he was appointed Lord Protector for his 12 year old nephew, Edward V. Soon after the boy King and his younger brother were escorted by their uncle to the Tower of London.
Richard was crowned King in July 1483 and the young princes vanished a few weeks later. Rumours implicating Richard in their disappearance persist to this day. Two turbulent years later he lay dead on Bosworth Field, slain by Henry Tudor’s army.
In 2012 his bones were uncovered in a Leicester car park and in 2015 they were reinterred in Leicester Cathedral.
