The family home of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for nearly 1,000 years, Arundel Castle is one of the longest inhabited country houses in England.
Standing high on a hill in West Sussex, the castle is a commanding presence, overlooking the town, the River Arun and the nearby South Downs.
Arundel Castle was subjected to two sieges during the Civil War, following which it fell into disrepair until the latter part of the nineteenth century when the fifteenth Duke of Norfolk set about its restoration in earnest, installing electric light, central heating and many other modern conveniences.
Spectacular aerial displays by starlings known as murmurations, are a feature of southern Sussex skies, most notably between November and February.
