The Hampshire village of Steventon is best known as the birthplace of the novelist Jane Austen. Her father, the Reverend George Austen, like other Austens before and after, was rector of the parish, and she and her family attended services in the twelfth century church for the first twenty-five years of her life until his retirement and the family’s move to Bath.
Here we see Jane and her sister Cassandra braving the inclement weather on the way to the church service, watched over by Christmas angels.
