The magnificent red brick Jacobean mansion of Blickling Hall was built in the first quarter of the seventeenth century, but its history is much older…
The manor of Blickling is recorded in the Domesday Book and was the home of such celebrated figures as Sir John Fastolf (the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Falstaff) who haunts the Hall, and later the Boleyn family.
According to tradition Anne Boleyn, future wife of Henry VIII, was born here. Her headless ghost is said to return to Blickling every May 19th, the anniversary of her execution in the Tower of London in 1536.
