One of the most admired poets of the 20th century, Sylvia Plath was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
Her short life was dogged by bouts of depression but it was here, at 3 Chalcot Square in London’s Primrose Hill, she spent some of her happiest times, newly married to fellow poet Ted Hughes, in a flat they rented for 6 guineas a week.
A blue plaque on the facade reminds passers-by that “Sylvia Plath, 1932-1963, Poet, lived here 1960-61”.
The picture shows her return from the past to her former home from where she once wrote in a letter to her mother, “I have never been so happy in my life.”
