Number 48 Doughty Street in Holborn was the home of Charles Dickens from 1837 to 1839, productive and youthful years which saw him write Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby as well as completing The Pickwick Papers and beginning Barnaby Rudge.
Here he is, in later life, returning for a sentimental Christmas visit, recalling past times, during one of his perambulations of the city.
